Weal Life, PBC. (“We”, “Weal” or “Weal Life”) is asking you to participate in a pilot research study. Participants will “test drive” the Weal Life mobile app experience for at least a 30 day period. The study aims to understand the application's impact on participants' lives who are dealing with a medical challenge, voluntarily taking care of, and / or supporting someone who is.  It also aims to gain app user feedback to improve the value of current and future offerings to our community.

Qualified participants would be 1) dealing with a medical challenge or upcoming health-related event, or; 2) caring for a loved one who is, or; 3) supporting someone they know who is. Participants would need to get at least two other users to join their Weal team and use Weal's mobile app to more efficiently coordinate care and communication among their community of family and friends who can help provide support.  Participants would also need to provide feedback to Weal's specialists via two short online surveys.

Most participants are excited about the opportunity to use their own experience to help others.  Additionally, participants who initiate a Weal team by getting two others they know to use the app and who also complete all phases of the study to the satisfaction of Weal Life would be eligible to receive a US$20 Amazon credit.

You need to have the Weal app on your phone in order to participate in this study. Everyone who enrolls will first complete a registration process. Registration will include entering your name, email address, and other general information about yourself.

There is a social networking component involved in using this app. While the purpose of Weal Life is to make people feel more supported and connected, we realize that illness and aging can be emotional topics and advise users to be prepared for potential discomfort (e.g. feelings of sadness or anxiety). Users should use their own discretion about what personal information they want to share with their Weal Life team and/or any other users they invite to the app.

It is highly recommended that you set up a passcode on your own phone and/or electronic device to help prevent unauthorized access to your device and research data. It’s also recommended that a remote disable feature be set up on your device in case it’s lost or stolen. This will allow you to remotely disable or remove any apps and/or data.

We anticipate that your participation in this study presents no greater risk than everyday use of the Internet. However, please note that email communication is neither private nor secure. Though we are taking precautions to protect your privacy, you should be aware that information sent through e-mail could be read by a third party. Your confidentiality will be kept to the degree permitted by the technology being used.

We will remove or code any personal information that could identify you before sharing to ensure that no one will be able to identify you from the information we share without your consent. Despite these measures, we cannot guarantee anonymity of your personal data.

YOUR INVOLVEMENT IN THIS STUDY IS VOLUNTARY.  You may refuse to participate before the study begins, discontinue at any time, or skip any questions/procedures that may make you feel uncomfortable with no penalty to you or your relationship with Weal Life.

We may contact you again to request your participation in a follow up study.
